UT Southwestern Medical Center plastic surgeons are spearheading innovative technology and techniques for breast surgery, including breast-lifts (breast mastopexy) and breast augmentation

We personalize breast-lifts to achieve the best outcomes for each patient. The result of the breast lift is a natural look that is in harmony with the patient’s size and body.

What Is Breast-Lift Surgery?

Breast-lift surgery is a cosmetic procedure designed to revitalize and reshape the breasts. This surgery targets issues such as sagging or drooping breasts, commonly associated with factors like aging, pregnancy, weight fluctuations, or genetics.

During the procedure, the doctor removes excess skin and lifts the breast tissue to achieve a more youthful and uplifted contour. In some cases, the areolas (darker skin surrounding the nipples) may be repositioned for a balanced appearance.

Some patients might also consider getting implants or using fat transfer to enhance their results. This can help them achieve a fuller look and meet their desired goals.

Breast-lift surgery does not significantly change the size of the breasts – it enhances their firmness and overall appearance. It offers a solution for those seeking to restore a more youthful and elevated profile to their breasts, ultimately boosting confidence and achieving a more balanced and harmonious silhouette.

Improved Breast Symmetry and Enhanced Contour

Patients considering a breast-lift are not alone. Whether restoring or enhancing the female breasts, this surgery can improve the symmetry of the breasts while enhancing their natural contour and shape.

Our plastic surgeons are highly experienced with this type of surgery, whether the goal is to:

  • Raise and reposition the breasts
  • Tighten skin to improve sagging
  • Reduce the size of the areola

Our team is internationally recognized for delivering outstanding clinical care and conducting groundbreaking research.

What to Expect from Breast-Lift Surgery

As a first step, UT Southwestern plastic surgeons consult with patients and evaluate their breast tissue, skin elasticity, and chest wall dimensions. We’ll determine which procedures and options will be most effective to meet expectations.

For some patients, we also suggest inserting breast implants when we perform a breast-lift to help increase firmness and size. It is particularly appropriate for smaller breasts or in cases where volume is lost, such as after pregnancy.

For other patients, our surgeons might suggest breast-reduction surgery instead, particularly for women with larger breasts.

Breast-lift surgery usually takes one to three hours. An overnight stay is not usually required. There will be temporary swelling, bruising, and some pain.

Even if a woman has had a breast-lift and has implants, she’ll have no problems getting a mammogram.

How Long Does a Breast-Lift Last?

A breast-lift has a permanent impact. However, the breasts will continue to change with the body over time.

“UT Southwestern sets the pace and protocols for plastic surgery across the globe. One of the reasons is the intense level of research our team has underway, which helps us continually improve procedures such as breast-lift surgery.”
