A daily celebration

As the late Robin Williams once said, “Spring is nature’s way of saying, ‘Let’s party!”

Seeing the ample signs of rebirth around us outdoors this time of year does certainly seem like a celebration.

In a different but not totally unrelated way, we at UT Southwestern are given reason to celebrate in all seasons— virtually every single day, in fact—and it comes from seeing patients given a new lease on life, the opportunity to thrive.

Rogers Hartmann, our cover story subject for this issue, is such a patient. It was only on St. Patrick’s Day 2015 that Ms. Hartmann underwent brain surgery at UTSW. Today, she’s pursuing a graduate degree and writing a book about her experiences.

We hope that after reading that and the other pieces we’ve selected here, you’ll see why we know there’s reason to celebrate year-round.
