George Thorne, M.D.

Biography

George C. Thorne, Jr., M.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He serves as Vice Chair of the department’s Clinical Faculty Practice. He specializes in cornea and external eye diseases and comprehensive ophthalmology.

Dr. Thorne earned his medical degree at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and completed a residency in ophthalmology at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. He received advanced training through a fellowship in cornea and infectious disease at the University of California, San Francisco, Proctor Foundation.  He also earned a master’s of business administration in health care management at the University of Texas at Austin.

Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, Dr. Thorne joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2017.

Dr. Thorne is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Medical Association, the Austin Ophthalmological Society, the Texas Medical Association, the Texas Ophthalmological Association, the Texas Medical Foundation, and the Travis County and Dallas County Medical Societies.
