Meet Dr. Shen

Bleeding and Clotting Disorders Specialist in Dallas

Hematology is in Yu-Min Shen, M.D.’s, blood – in more ways than one.

Dr. Shen is a nonmalignant hematologic disorders specialist, a physician who focuses on evaluating and treating noncancerous blood disorders. He’s also the son of a hematologist; during his training, he found himself drawn to the same area in which his father specialized.

Although he treats patients with a broad range of conditions – from anemia to myeloproliferative neoplasms – Dr. Shen specializes in treating bleeding and blood-clotting (coagulation) disorders such as hemophilia, von Willebrand disease, thrombosis, and hemostasis (slow or stopped blood flow).

A UT Southwestern Medical Center faculty member since 2004, Dr. Shen is fellowship trained and board certified in internal medicine, hematology, and oncology.

He works closely with his colleagues in the Department of Pathology’s Transfusion Medicine service and Reference Hemostasis Laboratory to precisely diagnose and comprehensively treat patients.

He considers himself a partner to his patients, and he believes that makes him a better doctor.

“I enjoy the relationships I have with my patients, and when I see them, I try to give each one my full attention and give them the time they need,” he says.

Over the course of his career, Dr. Shen’s keen observations have caught signs missed by others, which have led to several diagnoses and treatments that changed people’s lives.

“Everything is dependent on what I see, and if I do a good job of observing the patient, there are going to be clues. When I do a thorough physical exam and really listen to what my patients say, I usually get the information I need to correctly diagnose and treat them.”
