Biography

Tanya Martinez Fernandez, M.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at UT Southwestern Medical Center. Her areas of specialization include severe asthma, sleep medicine, and pulmonary complications of Down syndrome.

Dr. Martinez Fernandez earned her medical degree at the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine, where she also completed a residency in pediatrics. She gained advanced training in pediatric pulmonology through a fellowship at the Indiana University School of Medicine and the Riley Hospital for Children.

Certified in general pediatrics, pediatric pulmonology, and sleep medicine by the American Board of Pediatrics, she joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2006.

Dr. Martinez Fernandez is the Director of the Pediatric Pulmonology Fellowship Program at UT Southwestern Medical Center and the Director of the Severe Asthma Clinic at Children’s Medical Center Dallas.

She is a member of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, the American Thoracic Society, and the Severe Pediatric Asthma Consortium. She has published several articles in peer-reviewed journals and is an ad hoc reviewer for Pediatric Pulmonology.

In 2022, Dr. Martinez Fernandez was awarded the National Hispanic Medical Association’s Leadership Fellowship.
