Biography

Sarah Hemeida, M.D., M.P.H., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center.

Dr. Hemeida earned her medical degree at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center and her master’s degree in public health at the Colorado School of Public Health. She completed a residency in family medicine at the University of Colorado Hospital and received advanced training through a National Research Service Award primary care research and policy fellowship at the Adult and Child Center for Outcomes Research and Delivery Science at the University of Colorado.

Certified by the American Board of Family Medicine, she joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2023.

Dr. Hemeida’s clinical interests include women’s health and behavioral health needs in the primary care setting.

She is the Director of Empowher Health, a nonprofit dedicated to educating Muslim women on health issues. She also hosts the weekly podcast She Should Know, which focuses on women’s health education and well-being.

As a Scholar with the Eugene S. Farley, Jr. Health Policy Center at the University of Colorado, she has been working to advance policies that support advanced primary care and integrated behavioral health since 2014. She has worked with the U.S. Senate HELP committee to advise proposed legislation on graduate medical education and the primary care workforce. In addition, she serves as an Associate Editor of the Policy section of the journal Families, Systems, & Health.

Dr. Hemeida has delivered several presentations and published peer-reviewed articles in her areas of expertise.
