UT Southwestern Medical Center’s Pediatric Cardiology Program includes pediatric cardiologists and cardiovascular surgeons with national reputations as leaders in their fields. We are committed to achieving the best possible outcome for each and every child with a suspected or diagnosed heart condition.

U.S. News & World Report’s Best Children’s Hospital 2023-2024 list ranks our pediatric cardiology and heart surgery program No. 35 in the nation.

Leaders in Pediatric Cardiac Care

Eight out of every 1,000 babies born in the United States are born with a congenital heart abnormality. Using state-of-the-art equipment combined with the latest treatments and years of experience, UT Southwestern’s pediatric cardiologists provide comprehensive care for these young patients, beginning with evaluation and diagnosis and progressing through all stages of treatment.

UT Southwestern’s pediatric cardiology services are provided through the Heart Center at Children’s Health. Each year, our physicians see approximately 6,500 patients and perform cardiac surgery on approximately 700 children.

Conditions We Treat

From prenatal diagnosis to adulthood, we’re here for our pediatric patients. Cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, cardiac intensive care unit physicians, cardiac anesthesiologists, and specialized nurses collaborate to ensure families are in the best hands for their child’s cardiac care.

Our nationally recognized Heart Center at Children’s Health includes subspecialty cardiology programs in:

  • Heart failure
  • Heart transplantation
  • Preventive cardiology
  • Young adult congenital heart disorders
  • Cardiac imaging
  • Cardiovascular genetics
  • Cardiothoracic surgery

Inpatient services are divided between the 32-bed Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit, where patients receive concentrated treatment and monitoring, and the 30-bed cardiology inpatient floor, where all beds have data transfer capabilities with central monitoring. The Heart Center also houses our Fetal Heart and Coronary clinics.

In addition, we offer two catheterization laboratories for diagnostic and interventional procedures, including pacemaker, defibrillator, long term event monitor, and catheter ablation; an echocardiography suite, including special areas for fetal echocardiography; and a complete noninvasive monitoring laboratory.
