At UT Southwestern, our Headache and Facial Pain Disorders Program offers expert care for those times when headaches move from run-of-the-mill to ruining your life.
Care begins with a thorough assessment of your medical history and previous treatments, along with an evaluation for co-morbid conditions. In addition, because headache sufferers often must cope with unusual amounts of stress, depression, and anxiety, a psychological assessment may be incorporated.
Both a board-certified headache medicine specialist and a physical therapist evaluate all patients. Other consultations may be arranged depending on your unique situation.
We encourage patients to keep a headache diary and bring it with them to their first appointment, where your examining physician will review the diary.
After the initial evaluation, we partner with you to develop a personalized plan of care that incorporates both pharmacological and non-pharmacological strategies.
We offer a wide range of treatment options, including:
- Botox injections
- Cognitive behavioral treatment
- Emerging surgical treatments
- Facet and epidural blocks
- Nerve blocks
- Nutritional counseling
- Occipital nerve stimulation
- Physical therapy
As part of a major academic medical center, we also participate in numerous clinical trials, offering patients an opportunity to receive new treatments before they are available to the general public.
