Comprehensive Eye Care Covers All Ophthalmic Subspecialties

UT Southwestern’s Department of Ophthalmology is one of the world’s premier centers for the study of ophthalmology and for patient care, providing service to more than 50,000 patients in North Texas each year.

Faculty and staff are dedicated to preserving healthy eyesight and preventing blindness by delivering comprehensive, coordinated eye care to patients whose vision is threatened by eye disease, systemic disease, or injury; conducting biomedical research for the prevention of eye disease and blindness; and training eye care physicians (residents and postdoctoral fellows) as the future generation to deliver ophthalmic care.

Dedicated to Excellence

“You can refer patients for evaluation and treatment for common eye problems to the most complex issues someone can face,” says James McCulley, M.D., Chair of Ophthalmology. “We offer ‘one-stop’ comprehensive, coordinated eye care covering all ophthalmic subspecialties.”

Groundbreaking Advancements

UT Southwestern faculty is at the forefront of the latest advancements in ophthalmology, including participation in the development and evaluation of new drugs, devices, and therapies, many of which are available only at UT Southwestern. Clinical studies are conducted for research participants with common diseases such as glaucoma, conjunctivitis, blepharitis, age-related macular degeneration, and Graves’ disease, among others.

“We welcome your referrals to provide patients with outstanding, coordinated ophthalmic care,” says Dr. McCulley. “Our physicians see patients in our offices on the UT Southwestern campus, in North Dallas, Southlake, and Fort Worth. Our pediatric ophthalmology clinics are conveniently located on the Children’s Medical Center Dallas, Plano, and Southlake campuses.”

We take a team approach to help referring physicians care for patients with eye disease, systemic disease, or
eye injury.”
