Muhammad Shaalan Beg, M.D., treats patients with esophageal, gastric, colorectal, pancreatic, liver, and anal cancer as well as rare cancers such as neuroendocrine tumors and gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST).
He is particularly interested in researching how drugs that are currently available in drug stores can help treat cancer. In one such study, he is working on a drug to treat cancer-related weight loss, cachexia, to help cancer patients gain weight.
In addition to writing articles for Cancer Answer Line, his research has been featured in national and international cancer meetings, and he has published articles in many peer-reviewed medical publications. He is also a reviewer for multiple oncology journals.
