New hospital’s ER takes patient-centered view

Prevention

A visit to the emergency room is not on anyone’s list of “must-do’s,” but if a visit is required, the ER in the new William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital is an exceptional choice.

Specially designed with the needs of patients and their families in mind, the ER at Clements University Hospital is not merely a room but rather a nearly 37,000-square-foot department comprising 40 state-of-the-art emergency treatment rooms equipped for every medical contingency. Focused on quality, safety, and efficiency, the emergency care team works to get patients help as quickly as possible, starting at the front check-in desk.

“It’s our job to approach everyone with empathy and respect while relieving their pain and suffering,” says Deborah Diercks, M.D., Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine. “In a very short amount of time, we have to let them know we are going to provide the best care we can.”

Doctors and nurses – all trained in emergency medicine – are available to evaluate and treat issues ranging from heart attacks and strokes to severe abdominal pain caused by kidney stones, and more.

Inside the Clements University Hospital emergency department you’ll find:

Private exam rooms

Each of the emergency area’s 40 treatment rooms is private and has a door, rather than a curtain. The design includes a noise-reducing feature to eliminate outside sounds, and room space is large enough to accommodate a patient’s loved ones.

Innovative technology

The department is equipped throughout with the latest advanced imaging equipment to quickly and accurately diagnose patients and support immediate care.

A comfortable waiting and reception area

Seating is arranged in small groups, so family and friends can have private areas to meet and talk.

The emergency department entrance at Clements University Hospital is located on Record Crossing Road, just off Harry Hines Boulevard. The ER is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
