6 Tips to Make Your Skin Glow This Fall and Winter

With the change in seasons, it’s a good time to evaluate your skin care regimen. Whether you need to make adjustments to ward off dryness or want to have glowing skin for the holidays, consider these six tips from UT Southwestern skin care experts:

1:

Avoid Hot Water

It feels great, but it removes oil from the skin and dries it out. Wash your face with warm to cool water.

2:

Lose the Suds

Sudsy products can dry the skin. Consider a creamy cleanser for your face and body. Also, this is a good time to eliminate toning, particularly if you have dryer skin.

3:

Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize

Change to a nonclogging, oil-based moisturizer and/or one that has humectants. Humectants hydrate and act as a barrier to lock in moisture. Moisturize at least twice a day.

4:

Look for Products with Retinoids

Retinoids (such as Retin-A) decrease the impact of photoaging and brown spots and increase dermis with long-term use. You may even want to mix your Retin-A products with moisturizer.

5:

Exfoliate

Exfoliation helps your skin replenish more quickly and makes products like moisturizers and serum work even better. It also can help your skin look brighter.

6:

Cover up with Sunscreen

Sunscreen is one of the simplest, most effective ways to guard against wrinkles, sunspots, and skin cancer. Use a product with an SPF of at least 30, with broadspectrum (UVA and UVB) protection.
