We recommend that all patients familiarize themselves with the terms of their insurance coverage. This will help you understand UT Southwestern Medical Center’s billing procedures and charges.
Patients will be asked to provide their insurance information and present their insurance card for UT Southwestern to process their claims. We accept a wide variety of insurance plans.
After receiving medical care from a UT Southwestern physician, patients may receive bills from more than one source. These bills result from services being provided in multiple locations, such as a hospital, outpatient clinic, laboratory, or imaging center.
Tests or procedures performed at hospitals will generate two separate bills – one from the hospital facility and one from the physician. Physicians who aren’t part of UT Southwestern will bill patients separately.
We encourage patients to discuss the cost of any diagnostic procedure or treatment with their physician before it’s performed.
UT Southwestern will submit a patient’s bill directly to their insurance company for payment.
Our registration staff will ask the patient to provide or confirm their insurance information at each visit. Your cooperation in giving complete insurance information will enable the claim to be paid quickly.
We will notify the patient if we’re unable to submit a claim. In this instance, we may request payment from the patient at the time of service.
Regardless of the type of insurance coverage, patients are ultimately responsible for paying their medical bills. Although UT Southwestern will file a claim on the patient’s behalf and seek payment from the insurance company, if the claim is rejected or denied we will look to the patient for payment.
We request that the patient pay for all known deductibles, co-payments, and non-covered services at the time service is rendered. We’ll also ask patients without insurance for payment when service is provided.
In addition, UT Southwestern requests that all previously unpaid balances be paid prior to a new visit.
UT Southwestern accepts all major credit cards. If you wish to make monthly payments, a financial counselor can assist with any arrangements.
