Hematopathology

The Hematopathology Service provides consultation on any bioptic specimen where hematolymphoid neoplasms are a diagnostic consideration.

Features of the lab include:

  • Reports typically include commentary on any flow cytometric, cytogenetic, immunohistochemical, or molecular diagnostic studies that are performed on the same tissue in our laboratories.
  • The hematopathology consultation service is intimately coordinated with the flow cytometry, immunohistochemisty, cytogenetics, and molecular diagnostics laboratories. Our services are completely integrated.
  • We have a full range of expertise spanning all the different subspecialties necessary to providing accurate histopathologic diagnoses that adhere to current World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines.

Histologic material sent for consultation should be accompanied by a completed requisition with pertinent clinical history and laboratory results. We recommend that paraffin blocks or 6 to 10 unstained histologic sections be submitted for eventual immunostaining, cytogenetic, and/or molecular analysis, as it will expedite the final consultative report.

In any event, we will work closely with you, keeping you updated of preliminary diagnoses and further studies deemed necessary to the completion of your case.
