Ultherapy, also known as Ulthera, is a nonsurgical option that uses proven technology to rejuvenate the face and neck.

UT Southwestern Medical Center was among the first plastic surgery centers in the U.S. to evaluate how Ulthera performs among various ages and types of patients.

Effective Facial Rejuvenation Without Surgery

Our plastic surgeons have found that Ultherapy/Ulthera is an effective, nonsurgical facial rejuvenation process that addresses early signs of aging such as excess eyelid skin, sagging cheeks or jowls, and loose skin on the neck.

On the upper face, Ulthera can reduce excess skin on the eyelids and the forehead. On the mid-face, or the area around the mouth and nose, the contour of the lower face can be changed to significantly diminish wrinkles and sagging skin. On the neck, it can tighten loose skin.

Ultherapy is typically recommended for patients who are in their 30s or older and display early signs of aging. It is most beneficial for people without excessive skin laxity.

All our surgeons have completed extensive training in plastic surgery, studying for an additional six to nine years after completing their medical school education. Our board-certified surgeons have passed rigorous written and oral exams to receive board certification from the American Board of Plastic Surgery.

Ulthera: What to Expect

During a consultation, we evaluate a patient’s face and skin, then provide an objective viewpoint on whether Ulthera can generate a more youthful look. It’s important to find out if Ulthera will be safe and effective for a patient’s skin type.

Ultherapy uses sound waves to heat facial tissue deep beneath the skin. No incisions are required. The treatments stimulate the creation of new collagen, which is one of the ways the skin maintains a younger look.

Ultherapy treatments generally take 30 to 60 minutes and are performed in our offices. There might be a few days of mild swelling afterward.

Patients will see the impact immediately after the first treatment. The results build over time, so it can take up to six months to see the greatest impact.

"We evaluated Ulthera before it was introduced to the general public. We can quickly determine whether it will be safe for a patient’s skin and produce the desired results."
