Online Classes

We’re committed to making your childbirth experience a positive one. Preparing mothers for childbirth instills confidence and helps them enjoy a relaxed and meaningful birth experience.

We offer classes that were developed to help you and your family prepare for this special time. All classes are free of charge. Please call us at 214-633-6640 or email us at womenscenter@mednet.swmed.edu to schedule your class(es) as soon as possible.

Second trimester (Weeks 12-26)

Childbirth Preparation

This course is designed to increase your knowledge of the birth process so that you and your support person feel comfortable and prepared for labor and delivery. The class covers:

  • Labor and birth
  • C-section
  • Comfort measures and medication
  • Coping skills and postpartum
  • Hospital procedures
  • Relaxation and breathing
  • The role of the labor companion
  • Hospital tour

Please note: Breastfeeding and baby care are not included in this class.

Register early because space is limited. Saturdays (schedule varies)

Third trimester (Weeks 27-birth)

Prenatal Breastfeeding

This class is designed to help you and your support person make informed decisions about infant feeding and to provide education and support for those who choose to breastfeed, as well as offering practical information for mothers who are returning to work while continuing to breastfeed their child. Saturdays (schedule varies).

The class covers:

  • Benefits of breastfeeding
  • How your body produces milk
  • Preparations for breastfeeding
  • Getting started after delivery
  • Going home
  • Self care: nutrition, rest, and breast care

Baby Care Basics

Learn all the basic baby care you need to know before heading home with your newborn. In this hands-on class, you will practice bathing, diapering, dressing, and swaddling baby dolls. Other topics will include:

  • Basic infant care
  • Characteristics of a newborn
  • Infant nutrition
  • How to deal with crying
  • Signs and symptoms of illness
  • How to assure safe sleep

Saturdays (schedule varies).

Online Prenatal Education Classes

UT Southwestern Medical Center provides online options for prenatal education that includes childbirth and breastfeeding classes. Click here to register for classes. 

Hospital Tours

We provide guided tours at William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital. Whether you are planning an addition to your family or already expecting, we invite you to take a tour of our labor and delivery and postpartum areas. Tours are free, but registration is required.
