Prenatal Classes

We’re committed to making your childbirth experience a positive one. Preparing couples for childbirth instills confidence in new parents and helps them enjoy a relaxed and meaningful birth experience.

We offer classes that were developed to help you and your family prepare for this special time. All classes are free of charge; Please call to schedule your class(es) by your 20th week, or as soon as possible.

Prepared Childbirth

This course is designed to increase your knowledge of the birth process so that you and your partner feel comfortable and prepared for childbirth. Register early because space is limited.

The class covers:

  • Labor and birth
  • Relaxation and breathing techniques
  • Comfort measures
  • Coping skills
  • Cesarean childbirth
  • The role of the labor companion
  • Newborn care
  • Tour of St. Paul University Hospital’s maternity unit

Prenatal Breastfeeding and Returning to Work

This class is designed to help you and your support person make informed decisions about infant feeding and to provide education and support for those who choose to breastfeed, as well as offering practical information for mothers who are returning to work while continuing to breastfeed their child. 

The class covers:

  • Benefits of breastfeeding
  • How your body produces milk
  • Preparations for breastfeeding
  • Getting started after delivery
  • Going home
  • Self care: nutrition, rest, and breast care

Infant/Child CPR and Safety

Know the facts about preventing accidents and what to do if an accident occurs. This class is designed for parents or people who work with infants and children. The class includes CPR instruction and a practice session.
