Maternal/Fetal Transport

Our maternal-fetal transport service can assist women who experience a complication during labor. If their doctors determine the baby needs a Level IIIBC NICU (neonatal intensive care unit), the transport service can transport the baby to Children’s Medical Center Dallas immediately after birth.

While there, UT Southwestern Maternal-Fetal Medicine doctors will coordinate the baby’s treatment and care with a team of neonatologists and pediatric surgeons.

Conditions where the maternal-fetal transport may be necessary include:

  • Threatened preterm labor
  • Premature rupture of membranes
  • Complex surgical deliveries
  • Maternal medical conditions requiring tertiary medical subspecialist support
  • Fetal anomalies requiring neonatology and pediatric subspecialty postnatal care.
