Our neuromuscular disorders team provides a multidisciplinary service for patients suffering from conditions such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS or Lou Gehrig’s disease), myasthenia gravis, muscular dystrophy, peripheral neuropathy, inflammatory myopathy, and dysautonomia.
Patients at UT Southwestern Medical Center have access to expert neuromuscular physicians and to a complete array of neurodiagnostic tests to provide the most accurate diagnoses. While some neuromuscular disorders do not have specific therapies available, many can be treated effectively. This is especially true of immune-mediated nerve and muscle disorders.
Comprehensive patient care is the trademark of the Neuromuscular Disorders Clinic. You will receive care from a complete team – neurologists, physical therapists, speech pathologists, respiratory therapists, psychologists, dietitians, and social workers. Our physicians are committed to delivering the best in compassionate and effective care while conducting research to advance medical knowledge in neuromuscular disorders.
Pediatric neuromuscular patients are evaluated at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children and Children's Medical Center Dallas. Patients with unusual metabolic myopathies are evaluated at the Neuromuscular Center in the Institute for Exercise and Environmental Medicine at Presbyterian Hospital Dallas.
