Mental Health (Psychiatry)
UT Southwestern Medical Center is home to one of the premier centers in the world for the study, diagnosis, and treatment of mental health and addictive disorders.
UT Southwestern is a major referral center, offering consultative services in every medical and surgical area. We treat thousands of patients each year at our inpatient and outpatient facilities. Our physicians draw on the strength of our research in the mental health field, using the latest, most effective treatments to deliver outstanding patient care, whether for medication treatment, psychoanalysis, interactive therapies, or inpatient medical treatments.
In order to deliver outstanding patient care, our mental health professionals remain actively involved in clinical research.
UT Southwestern’s Department of Psychiatry receives more than $20 million per year in National Institutes of Health (NIH) sponsored studies, making it ninth nationally among psychiatry departments. It boasts 16 endowed chairs and professorships.
Our clinical trials program gives patients access to treatments that are available years before they are offered to the general public. Research studies may offer free evaluation and treatment for qualified patients.
Our board-certified psychiatrists are respected by their peers as authorities on all types of mental health problems, such as depression, bipolar disorders, schizophrenia, anxiety, and eating disorders.
