We Treat Your Cancer Differently Here
At UT Southwestern, we treat cancer differently from any other health care facility in North Texas. We approach your breast cancer with a multidisciplinary team to care for you and your unique health needs. We don’t just treat your breast cancer. We treat you.
Our multidisciplinary breast cancer team consists of oncologists, radiologists, surgeons, plastic surgeons, nurses, nutritionists, social workers, and more. Every specialist is devoted to providing you with the best care and treatment for your cancer. Treatment teams meet weekly and communicate regularly to discuss your care and the best ways to meet your needs.
Individualized Treatment Plans
No two patients are exactly alike, so we design individualized treatment plans for each patient based on a comprehensive laboratory analysis of each tumor. Every treatment plan includes measures to minimize side effects, promotes each patient’s quality of life, and preserves the breast whenever possible. Also, we use minimally invasive techniques whenever possible to reduce the risk of lymphedema, the swelling of the arms or legs.
At UT Southwestern Center for Breast Care, your treatment options include:
- Surgery – including lumpectomy, mastectomy, and lymph node biopsy
- Reconstruction surgery that can begin during the mastectomy or later
- Adjuvant medical therapies – including radiation, chemotherapy, hormone therapy, or medications that target certain molecules involved in breast cancer development
- Clinical trials of some of the latest advances and treatments
In addition, clinical services and research programs available to you include nutritional counseling, follow-up care, pre- and post-operative treatment trials, psychosocial care through support groups, and biological assessment of tumor cells in the bloodstream.
Our cancer specialists work with you each step along the way to help you understand all your options and choose the optimal treatment for your disease.
