How UTSW Handles Blood Clot Prevention – Patients Who Got Treatment to Prevent Blood Clots on the Day of, or Day After, Hospital Admission or Surgery

Why Is This Important?

This is important because blood clots are a serious complication of hospitalization, especially after surgery. Blood clots can break off the area where they are formed and travel to other parts of the body, causing severe damage or even death. UT Southwestern monitors the percent of patients who received treatment to prevent blood clots as soon as they were admitted to the hospital for any reason.
